Looking for inspiration for this weekend’s race? Stop by and chat with Mary McManus who went from being told to prepare to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair after the diagnosis of Post-Polio Syndrome in December 2006 to the finish line of the 2009 Boston Marathon and beyond. Mary is a most unlikely runner who could never participate in athletics as a child after contracting paralytic polio at the age of 5. After 6 months of working with a personal trainer after intensive outpatient rehab at Spaulding Rehab, she declared her next health and fitness goal was to run the Boston Marathon. Mary is an inspirational speaker, blogger and the author of her Trilogy of Transformation and “Feel the Heal: An Anthology of Poems to Heal Your Life.” Mary’s books chronicle how she harnessed the power of the mind/body connection and her fiery determination to defy the odds.
